James Bond only drives Aston Martin; The Fast and The Furious franchise has featured everything from Ford to Toyota. What about Corvette? While some might argue that the Dodge Charger or Pontiac GTO is the ultimate muscle car, we here at RB Auto Service prefer Corvettes. Yes, we know some people don’t consider them muscle cars, but they are the ultimate for speed and sport. Let’s have a little fun and talk about the top five Corvettes featured in Hollywood flicks.
1981’s King of the Mountain
Dennis Hopper starred in this action flick that featured a big-block 1967 Corvette Coupe designed especially for the film. Hopper raced Harry Hamlin, who drove a Porsche 356 Speedster. The two raced along L.A.’s curve-laden Mulholland Drive with the ‘Vette meeting a fiery end, sadly. Not surprising if you’ve ever driven Mulholland Drive too fast.
1983’s Terms of Endearment
A corvette in an Oscar-winning tearjerker? Well, yes. Although this film focuses on the mother/daughter relationship between characters played by Shirley MacLaine and Debra Winger, respectively, it is Jack Nicholson who drives his 1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette into the ocean to get Shirley MacLaine’s attention. Jack! It’s a 1978 Silver Anniversary edition!
1955’s Kiss Me Deadly
Considering the first Corvette ever was assembled in 1953, you know the Corvette featured in this film was a classic beauty. The ‘Vette driven by Ralph Meeker was an absolutely gorgeous 1954 black convertible. It was part of the first generation line of Corvettes, and can we just say they just don’t make cars like that anymore. It’s sporty and stunning!
1997’s Boogie Nights
Mark Wahlberg played porn star Dirk Diggler in this Academy Award-nominated film, but the star of the movie in our eyes was the 1977 Competition Orange Corvette Wahlberg drove. Tragically, for us, Corvette lovers, Wahlberg’s character crashes the ‘Vette into a telephone pole in the film during a low point in his life and career.
1978’s Corvette Summer
You probably figured out that a film about a Corvette would make the top of our list. Mark Hamill is known best for playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films, but Corvette Summer featured Hamill searching for a stolen ‘Vette. What made this 1973 ‘Vette so special? It was a souped-up, flame-painted, red custom job that looked fiercer than any Trans Am out there. Take that, KITT!
